82Parris is kicking off this year with their first group show Taking Form. Join us on the first Friday of May for some really exceptional work as well as a great solo show by Paige Friedman happening at the same time.
Opening reception is Friday, May 3rd, from 5-8pm.

82Parris is an artist-run gallery (Kat Miller, Annie Conant, Hannah Day, Holden Willard & Kincaid Pearson) and event space for early to mid-career creatives. 82Parris provides opportunities to this underserved demographic by facilitating an accessible environment for artists to gain practical experience and various ways to build a network of peers. This is implemented through both solo and group shows, peer critiques, live music, and other pop-up style events. 82Parris inhabits 82 Paris Street in Portland, ME - in the New Systems Laundry building.  We seek to honor the legacy of New Systems continuing to broaden the reach to more artists and communities.

Beyond Comfort invites artists to express their perception of beauty and/or the grotesque in contemporary art and society.  This show allows artists to define and explore aesthetics while joining the long debated concept of beauty and its function in art.

Opening Reception: Thursday, May 23, 6-8pm

Nicolet Art Gallery - Northwoods Center

The annual Northern National Art Competition is a cooperative venture between Nicolet College Arts & Enrichment and the Northern Arts Council that aims to share resources as well as community art and cultural activities in Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida, and Vilas Counties. The show attracts hundreds of entries nationwide, showcasing a cross section of contemporary art in a variety of two-dimensional mediums.

This year’s show will be juried by Debra Brehmer, an arts writer and curator, who owns and operates Portrait Society Gallery, a contemporary art space in Milwaukee. She was also the former editor and publisher of Art Muscle magazine. Prior to opening the gallery, she taught art history as an adjunct professor for 10 years at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.

The opening reception is an opportunity for attendees to get a first peek at one of the premiere art shows in Northern Wisconsin, and then join Brehmer as she shares her remarks on the curation of this prestigious show.

Tickets to the reception are $20 and include heavy appetizers, refreshments, and thoughtful comments by the judge. Tickets can also be purchased at Childs Frame Company in Rhinelander and from members of the Northern Arts Council. Limited seating available.

Immerse yourself in a world of creativity at our Maker’s Market featuring local artists, let your inner artist shine at our creating station, dance joyfully around the Maypole, and cozy up around the bonfire as we welcome the warmth of summer.

At 3pm, it’s time for The Family Music Class Music Party! Enjoy original and popular tunes, grab an instrument, and join in the fun.

● March 15 - May 15- Virtual Gallery of Artists (VGA) Pop-Up Exhibit at the Ferguson Family YMCA in Candler- “Small Works” by painters in Artsville’s Spring cohort encourages Y members and non-members to see a wide variety of media available for sale by Artsville’s Virtual Gallery artists. Smack dab among the stairclimbers, this unusual space makes art accessible to everyone, encouraging “newbies” to consider the joy of just looking. Media includes oil, acrylic, watercolors welcoming the spring season.

● Monday, April 8: Art Talks at the Y in Candler - This series introduces Y members and non-members to an energetic hour of discussion, networking and demos. Presenters include Artsville’s artists showing at the Y from March through May. Members and the public are invited to attend at the YMCA Candler in partnership with ArtsvilleUSA.com.
